Private interests will always have the money and legal power to suppress the smaller, more disjointed voices of those who oppose them.
It is not just our own government that is succumbing to these private interests, but also foreign business interests as well. We are selling-off the land, water, earth (oil) and air that is supposed to be for our descendants, so other countries may reap the benefits and pay Canada with short-term monetary rewards.
Along with this stripping of our natural heritage, we give our brightest and best to other countries so that they may continue providing labour for the slow demise of our nation.
As for the digital online realm and it's laws, they are being used as a smokescreen/pariah so that laws can be passed, whose real intentions are to control and limit our own real-life personal freedoms.
Canadians, as consumers, are treated like cattle who are only good for our sweat and money. Politicians and corporate "philanthropists" try and ease their tarnished public image by placing our most vulnerable up as social shields.
All this negativity and sense of hopelessness has slowly trickled down towards our children and their children, leading to a lifestyle of superficiality, over-consumerism, apathy/antipathy and leaving beyond our means.
We live in a world were we are aggressively targeted by entities who harness the power of other entities to subjugate and buy our loyalties towards said entities so we may continue worshipping them without question.
Canada will never be a dystopia, because we are quickly raising the bar for what we consider a "dystopian society".
What can we do? Our generation is lucky enough to be the last generation born into a world without a constant connection to the internet. Where we were raised with the values of our parents and grandparents. The best we can do is teach our children the right values that are in the best interest for them and their children.
Questioning everything and not blindly accepting things given to you that relies on white lies or stretching the truth. Everyone is trying to sell you something, whether it's a product or a lie.
Take the time to appreciate what you have NOW, because people are getting better at taking things away from you before you realize you even had it in the first place.

It is a tenacious age both for the next generation and modern society. We can try our best to teach the next generation to appreciate and utilize the physical tools of our forebears and also appreciate modern social technological inventions.
Simply shielding a child 100% from today's many thousands of methods of online interactions might not be a good idea, as the ways people socialize and communicate starts to get more complex and tethered with the online world. As a result, this could affect the way they interact with their peers or fully comprehend the way people will be communicating in their generation. We could be denying our children the ability to fully utilize tomorrow's available work and everyday life tools.
Online social media can be dangerous as well, as it is designed to be addictive, rewarding and demanding all at once. A parent or role-model must be able to show the next generation that there is a limit to what online social interaction can accomplish and sometimes its just nice to phone or meet someone for lunch sometimes.
I fear how lonely my generation might be when we grow older as our descendants grow further and further apart of the 'past' and even the 'present'. We might grow old seeing our grandchildren through video chat and not being able to have the same relationship we had with our elders growing-up as they will.
Films like, 1999's 'The Matrix', eerily resemble today's society in which many people are enslaved by their virtual chains, forever trying to make a difference in a virtual environment that has very little in-common to reality. People live and depend on each other in the 'real world' using physical tools to survive and participating in community rituals meant to bring people closer together.
Technology dependence has grown in developed countries (and used to help some under-developed countries as well) at a rate so fast that modern laws cannot be created or amended fast enough to keep up. Technology is evolving faster than it takes to create boundaries and limitations that prevent those using technology for immoral use or gain.
Social technology (ST) may be the social-technological equivalent of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (mad cow), in which those afflicted with it may not show obvious signs of symptoms up to 50 years. Right now we are in a state of tech-law flux. Like those afflicted with CJD, it might already be too late to make a 'quick-fix' or short-term plan to reign any complexities that may result from social technology.
ST is also a great thing, if used with responsibility and appreciation for what came before. This blog for example, helps communicate thoughts and expressions to people who may be unable to interact with others in-person. I might be deaf-mute and be able to make the biggest societal splash in the virtual and real world. ST extends the reach of our social influence across the globe, someone in a country halfway across the world might be able to translate this post into their native tongue and understand the message contained in here. They might mis-interpret it and create their own opinion that is radically different than the point I'm trying to make. So ST can be a great boon to the interesting animal that is homo sapien.
One can not really appreciate something if they never know the alternative, if we don't know what the less better way is, then we won't care about how good we have it, we'll just want something better.
The old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." has quickly been replaced by, "If it ain't broke, it's probably old and you need to find something newer."Tenacious times indeed.
